Land Rover really provides for the Dubai World Golf Championship

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

The Dubai World Golf Championship is a worldwide renowned event. Featuring the best golfers from around the world, the tournament attracts huge crowds and viewers from all over the place. As with any sporting event, advertising plays a crucial part. Not only does it help to promote the company that provides the advertising, but it also helps the event raise the funds to pull everything off. There are many different types of advertising, usually the most common being the classic picture or a slogan of the company. A fee is usually paid for this, and it proves to be quite effective.

This year however, Land Rover made a surprise move by offering their services for the Dubai World Championship to golfers, VIPs and other important contributes of the Dubai World Championship. Land Rover provided a huge fleet of 30 luxury vehicles to transport the players and families from their hotel to the tournament.

Robin Colgan, Director of Managing for Jaguar Land Rover, stated, “We are delighted to be associated with Dubai World Championship that attracted a record of 58,000 spectators this year, and looks set to become a highlight of the Middle East and international sporting calendar. Our partnership reflects a perfect synergy of superb performance, precision, style and power and reiterates Land Rover’s position as a truly global brand supporting local and international events.”

Land Rover also offered a 2010 Range Rover Sport to any player that scored a hole in one on the 17th hole, which is a par 3. This generated a huge interest in the tournament, which thus gave Land Rover great publicity across the world. No one ended up getting a hole in one, but it was still a great opportunity for the golfers.

Land Rover pulls its sponsorship from the 2010 America’s Polo Cup

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

The American Polo Cup is legendary throughout the world, and features many millions of viewers watching the events unfold on TV. The American Polo cup is often credited to opening up the sport of Polo to the world. Before, it was often an enclosed and often unheard of sport. Nowadays it is a raging sport, with many participants around the world getting actively involved in the sport. The 2010 American Polo Cup is to be held in various locations, including Australia and America. The large amount of viewers that watch the event, both in person and on the TV, as well as everyone following the event on blogs, phone updates and through word of mouth etc, means that many companies will be interested in sponsorship as their reputation will spread out to thousands of viewers.

Land Rover had previously been the lead sponsor of the cup, alongside with Ritz Carlton, St. Regis hotels and even along with the Indian Embassy being lesser sponsors. Everything appeared to be going well, until the companies got wind of a couple called the Salahis. The Salahis run a company which states that it raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Salahis have not registered the company with the home State of Virginia, meaning that any amount of money you give, whether it be £5 or £5000 will not be eligible for charity deductions. The Salahis have many lawsuits being currently filed against them, with various companies claiming that they did not pay out for services.

Due to all the confusion and how messy the situation was becoming, all the above sponsors pulled out and have left the cup in a complete mess.
